Born in 1722, Daniel was the son of Tamar and Andrew. His father had been enslaved by Richard Lord, one of the wealthiest men in Hartford, who, upon his death, left Andrew to his widow, Abigail. When Abigail was remarried to Rev. Timothy Woodbridge and their households were merged, Andrew came to know Tamar, Woodbridge’s housemaid. Andrew and Tamar were married and had three children, one of whom was Daniel. After Abigail Lord Woodbridge’s son, Elisha Lord, married Mary Haynes, Daniel appears to have become the property of Elisha Lord. In 1725, Elisha Lord died and Daniel became the property of his son, John Haynes Lord. In 1761, Daniel died at about age 39. His death is listed in Hartford First Church records. “May 28, 1761, Danl Negro Servt to Jno Haynes Lord, died” is all it says.
