Boneto

Stone Number: ME 3

Boneto was an Indigenous person purchased by Joseph Sayward and brought here in 1730. Although Boneto was initially bound for life, he was promised freedom after nine years if he met the conditions established by his enslaver. We do not know whether that promise was honored, as sometimes these promises were frail. Boneto disappears from the surviving records, leaving us with several possibilities but no definite account of what happened to him.
