Sam

Stone Number: NY 22
Other Name: son of Sampson

Sam was an enslaved boy, age 8, who may have been the son of Sampson (NY 3). Like others in the community, many enslaved men and boys shared first names, suggesting family connections across generations. On April 19, 1750, a public auction — known as a vendue — was held at Philipsburg Manor, where fifteen enslaved people were advertised for sale. That day, Sam was sold alone to Abraham DePeyster of New York City.
