Lazarus Heady

Lazarus Heady spent his early years in slavery, gaining his freedom when his enslaver, who was also his father, died. In addition to freedom, Lazarus received money and an apprenticeship. He, his mother, and siblings became a foundational Black family in Westchester County. He died at age 99 in New Castle Township, Westchester County, NY.
