Fortune was enslaved by Samuel Dickinson who moved to Deerfield in 1730. In addition to Fortune, Dickinson enslaved at least two other men: Peter and Caesar. A Deerfield church entry records that “Fortune Servant to Samuel Dickinson was baptized on his mistress’s account” on June 22, 1737.
