When Jonathan Wells, Jr. died, his wife, Mary Hoyt Wells, moved in next door to her father-in-law Justice Jonathan Wells. Joining her was an enslaved woman and a boy. It is surmised that the woman was Rebecca, based on a 1736 church record which says that “Pompey Negro and Rebecca his wife” were admitted to membersip in the church.
