Caesar

Stone Number: MA 5

Enslaved by Colonel Ebenezer Hinsdale, perhaps alongside Mescheck, Caesar served in the French and Indian War (1754-1763), according to George Sheldon’s A History of Deerfield, Massachusetts. Ebenezer Arms’ daybook charged Hinsdale for “making Cesars Shoes” in 1750, and Cesar purchased a pair of shoe buckles at Elijah Williams’s Deerfield store in 1753.
