The only known reference to an individual named “Peter Pur, alias Pompey” appears in an advertisement placed in 1728 by Mehuman Hinsdale. In the ad, Hinsdale offered a reward for the recovery of “a Pequot Indian named Peter Pur, alias Pompey.” He also was seeking the return of a “White young man” named John Griffith.
